Milk-tea brown, butter white and caramel gold, hand-painted with 3D pineapple buns, butter slices, gingham checks and marble swirls, finished with tiny gold flowers, pearls and gold beads — like an afternoon tea at a Hong Kong cha chaan teng. Japanese jelly-style finish, every nail hand-painted.

The story behind

The old cha chaan teng on the corner is busiest at three in the afternoon. A fresh pineapple bun, sliced open with a thick slab of cold butter, and a cup of silky milk tea — her favourite taste of Hong Kong.

She painted that afternoon into ten nails and tucked it into the “Nabi Tea House” diary.
