An Afternoon of Water Lilies
The first stop of our French museum series: the Musée de l'Orangerie in Paris. Moss green, misty mauve, ochre and cream — painted in impressionist brushstrokes to capture a whole afternoon of light on the water-lily pond. Japanese jelly-style finish, every piece hand-painted.

The story behind this painting
The story behind
In a corner of the Tuileries Garden in Paris, daylight falls softly from above into the oval rooms of the Musée de l'Orangerie. Water lilies float across entire walls; the shadows of willows, clouds and reflections overlap until you can no longer tell where the water ends and the sky begins.
She sat on the bench for a whole afternoon, just to watch the light drift slowly across the pond. When she came home, she gathered that afternoon, stroke by stroke, into ten little nails — quietly, gently swaying.
- Moss-green reflection nail ← willow shadows and reflections rippling on the pond
- Misty-mauve blossom nail ← clusters of water lilies floating on the surface
- Cream shoreline nail ← the faint horizon of the far bank
- Ochre afternoon nail ← afternoon sunlight resting on the water
- Gold-dotted moss nail ← points of light glittering on the pond
