Late at night, moonlight slips through the sheer curtain and falls on a piece of old lace on the dressing table. The silver threads glimmer in the light — like leaves, like stars, like a tiny crescent moon.

She lines up her pearls one by one and paints that patch of moonlight into ten nails, stroke by stroke — quietly shimmering in silver.
